The Tsunami modelling project was an emotional response to the events of 2004 and the involvement of close friends, Barry and Mary Toomey, in the aftermath. I feel certain that many of the current models for tsunami generation and propagation need more scientific scrutiny and hope that this makes a positive contribution to the subject.
An astronomical curiosity was the result of observations made while ‘exiled’ alone in Sri Lanka. Every evening I went up to the roof of the apartment building and watched the sunset in the fervent hope of seeing the elusive ‘green-flash’. The position and precise timing of the sunset aroused my curiosity as they did not quite match the results that would be expected for the “Equation of Time”.
